– Five GCSE’s at Grade 4 or above
– One of the five to be GCSE Mathematics at Grade 4 or above.
The course is made up of four units, one external examination unit,
one externally set unit and two internally assessed units.
Pearson, Level 3 Certificate/Extended Certificate in Business. Students will be
awarded a Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction* by the points gained for the successful achievement of individual units.
Specialist Qualification (equivalent to one A Level):
This is a practically based, work related course which is equivalent to one A Level. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations. The course focuses upon key skills in Business which include: Human Resources, Accounting, Marketing, Communication, Logistics, Administration and Management.
You will focus on a particular subject area and develop specialist skills and knowledge. The course prepares you for working in any organisation and can lead onto an Apprenticeship or count towards your UCAS points for Further Education.
The following units will be covered on this course:
Unit 1 – Exploring Business (Mandatory)
This unit provides an introduction to the range of business activities with an
exploration of the dynamic nature of organisations and the factors that influence them. This is an internally set assignment unit.
Unit 2 – Developing a Marketing Campaign (Mandatory)
This unit creates a deeper understanding of marketing campaigns by creating a campaign for a chosen business. This is an externally set assignment.
Unit 3 – Personal and Business Finance (Mandatory)
This unit gives students the chance to understand Businessfinance and personal
finance options. This is an external examination.
Unit 14 – Investigating Customer Service (Optional)
This unit explores how businesses deliver customer service and is an internally assessed assignment unit.
Specialist Qualification Certificate: If you choose to study this subject for one year only, you will be awarded the Certificate (equivalent to one AS Level). You will cover Units 1 and 2 and sit public examinations in Year 12.
Progression: Business is an ideal qualification for all employment sectors as it gives a broad overview of the running of a business. Other options include
Apprenticeships, employment or Higher Education in a range of areas such as Marketing, Human Resources, Insurance and Retail.
Opportunities: The opportunity to apply a range of business concepts to run your own business in Year 12 through the Young Enterprise Enrichment. Each unit allows the opportunity for visits, speakers, research and using your own part-time working experiences.
